::Dance 5::Daren was already eating breakfast with Mrs Kang when Katherine walked into the dining room. Daren was glad to see that Katherine had returned to her normal self. She chirped good morning to Mrs Kang and Daren and sat down. “Drink some milk.” Daren said with a smile as he poured Katherine a glass of milk. Katherine returned the smile and took a sip from the glass. The corner of Mrs Kang’s lips went up slightly as she watched the both of them.
“It’s perfect!” David said as he Katherine and Daren finished their dance. “Really?” Katherine said bashfully. “Daren had learnt dancing since he was young and you had such talent for dancing. The both of you are perfectly matched! The dance is flawless!” David exclaimed. “It would only be flawless if everyone dances well.” Katherine reminded. “That’s why I got everyone hard at dancing! With a few more practices, I’m sure the dance would be perfected.”
“Since our dancing is perfect, can we both take a day off tomorrow?”
“I don’t see any problem with that. But may I ask why?”
“I’m thinking of bringing Katherine out.”
“But…” Katherine protested.
“Go ahead, go ahead.” David said as he walked off with a laugh.
“What drink would you like?” Daren asked as they walked towards the vending machine. “Hmm…Orange soda.” Daren slipped two coins into the machines and two cans dropped out noisily.
Clang! Clang! “Is it a good idea to skip tomorrow’s practice?” “It’s fine. Don‘t worry.” “I guess… Where are we going tomorrow?” “You’ll know tomorrow.” “Why so secretive?” Daren remained quiet and returned her question with a smile.
“I can’t believe she can actually take the day off tomorrow! So what if she’s good? If the MV is ruined because of her absence during practices, I’m sure no one will forgive her!”
“She thinks that she’s the best that’s why. David will never reprimand her anyway. She’s like a precious jewel to him.”
“I wonder if she has some extraordinary relationship with David? If not why would he teach her dancing for free? And he never scolds her!”
“You mean, she…”
“It must be!”
“I can’t believe it! She’s disgusting!”
“Slut!”
The contents of what the two persons were chit chatting about was heard clearly by Katherine who was showering in the bathroom. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she listened to her two team mates talk bad about her.
“I wonder how much allowance does David give her?”
“She must have been given quite a lot! Look at what she wore to the studio today. It’s branded! She‘s covered with branded goods from head to toe!”
“I didn’t know David earned that much…To be able to provide that slut with enough money to buy herself branded goods.”
“David has been quite a famous dance instructor for some time now. It’s only natural that he has a lot of money.”
“And did you see how close she was with Daren these few days?”
“Yes yes! I wonder why Daren fancies her of all people! I mean, look at her. It‘s like as if she has the words ‘I am a slut’ carved on her forehead!”
The two girls continued as they walked out of the bathroom and into the changing room. “
Slut.” The word kept repeating itself in Katherine’s head. She leaned against the wall and slowly slid down. Tears were rolling down her cheeks like pearls. She sobbed silently. “Grandma…Please tell me… What should I ? What should I do… …”
As Katherine banged shut the bathroom door, she heard Josephine and Madeline still discussing about her. The both of them stopped as soon as they saw her walked into the changing room. Katherine walked towards the two of them stared at them. “What are you looking at?” Madeline snapped. “I heard everything.” Katherine said coldly. “So?” Josephine spoke up. “Don’t you think you’ve gone too far? I demand an apology!” Katherine shouted angrily. ‘
Never let other people bully you. If they scold you, scold them back! If they beat you, beat them back! Don’t let people take advantage of you! You mustn’t let them take advantage of your kind nature and allow people to walk over you!’ Grandmother’s words ran through her mind. “Ha! Apology! Do you think you deserve any?” Josephine said smugly. Before Katherine could reply, she had walked towards the door with Madeline. “Come back!” Katherine ran forward and grabbed Josephine’s arm. “Let go!” Josephine flung her arm and sent Katherine crashing into the metallic doors of the lockers. “AHHH~!!”
Daren ran in with David and a few others when they heard the loud crash. “What’s wrong?” David bellowed as soon as he stepped into the room. His stern face looked shocked when he saw what was happening. Daren ran in and knelt beside Katherine. “Are you alright? Can you move? Is there any part of your body that’s particularly painful?” Daren asked anxiously as he gently touched Katherine’s arm. “Is it painful here?” Concern was written all over his face. “Come to my office immediately! The both of you!” David barked.
