::Dance 7::Daren ruffled Berry’s fur as he waited for Katherine. “Kat! We’re gonna be late!” Daren shouted for the nth time. “Coming!” Katherine shouted as she ran down the stairs. Berry barked excitedly as soon as he saw Katherine. Katherine bent down and gave Berry a quick kiss on her nose before running out of the house with Daren.

“Good morning!” David greeted Daren and Katherine when they walked into the studio. “We’re having a full rehearsal later. Change quickly and come out.” David ushered Daren and Katherine into the changing rooms. Daren pecked Katherine on her cheek and went into the room. Katherine’s face turned slightly red and she walked into the girls changing room.
Girls were chatting noisily as everyone changed. Katherine took out her dancing shoes from her locker and placed them on the floor. She dumped her bag in and took out a rubber band to tie her hair. There was a knock on the door and David’s voice could be heard. “Hurry up girls!” Everyone started to walk out of the room and Katherine quickly stuffed her feet into her shoes. A sharp pain shoot through her and she collapsed on the floor. Her shoes were stained bright red. Katherine grimaced as she removed her shoes. A shard of glass was poking halfway out of her feet. She overturned her shoe and more shards came falling out. Tears were stinging her eyes as she tried to pull out the piece of glass in her feet…
David was already taking attendance when Katherine arrived. Daren turned to look at Katherine as she sat down on the floor. Katherine smiled weakly at Daren and turned to look at David. The girls went forward to dance one by one as David called their name. Finally, it was Katherine’s turn. She stride to the front and bowed. Daren clapped enthusiastically and cheered. Nobody noticed the red stain on her shoes except for Josephine. Josephine smiled wickedly and looked at Katherine intently, as if waiting for something big to happen. Katherine moved her arms gracefully and every move was perfect. Katherine tried to fight back the pain she felt at her toes as she tried to swirl. She fell to the floor and everyone was taken aback. David gasped as Katherine fell. Daren ran forward to help Katherine up. Just then, David spotted the red on Katherine’s shoes. “What happened to your leg?” Concern was written all over David’s face. Daren looked down at Katherine’s feet and true enough, he saw a big patch of red.
Katherine clutched at the chair tightly as Daren applied medicine on her feet. Pain was soaring through her but she bit her lips and held back her tears. She had told David what happened earlier and David reprimanded her for trying to dance when she was injured. “What if your wound got infected?” David fumed. Daren wrapped the bandage around Katherine’s feet firmly and clasped it tight before putting it down on the ground gently. Daren gazed into Katherine’s watery eyes and stood up suddenly. “I’m going out for a while.” he announced.
As soon as Daren walked out of the room, Josephine approached him. “I need to talk. With you.” Josephine led Daren towards a secluded staircase.
“What do you want?” Daren questioned.
“I was the one who placed glass shards in Katherine’s shoes.”
“What?”
“Leave her… And become my stead…”
“Are you insane?”
“The last time I checked, I was perfectly fine. I want you to be with me.”
“You’re nuts.”
“This is just the beginning.” Josephine flashed a small transparent container filled with glass shards.
“What exactly do you want?”
“All I want is for you to become mine.” Josephine hugged Daren tightly.
“Let go of me.” Daren pushed her away.
“Or would you prefer me to pour this on her?” Josephine took out a bottle filled with liquid. “I don’t think she’ll very much like the burning sensation of this corroding her skin.” Josephine snarled.
“Leave Katherine alone!”
“As I’ve said earlier, I won’t touch her as long as you become mine. I want you to love me whole-heartedly.”
The shadows of two person hugging could be seen as the sun shone brightly.

When Daren came back, it was already nighttime and Katherine was eating dinner with Mrs Kang. “You’re so late today! Katherine had to come back alone! I wonder how she made it home alone with an injured feet.” Mrs Kang exclaimed as Daren sat down at the table. “I know. I was busy.” Daren replied coldly. “Daren?” Katherine turned to look at Daren. Berry licked Daren’s palm excitedly. “I’m going back to my room.” Daren pushed Berry away and stood up. “This child. I will never know what’s going through his mind.” Mrs Kang sighed and excused herself from the table. Katherine picked Berry up and placed her on her knee. “Berry, do you know what’s wrong with Daren? Hmm?” Berry barked and licked Katherine.
Katherine knocked on Daren’s door. “Come in.” Katherine pushed open the door and Berry squeezed in between Katherine’s legs and the door. “What’s wrong with you? You seem weird after you came back today.” Katherine reached for Daren’s hand. Daren quickly stuffed his hands into his pockets and mumbled “Wasn’t feeling well.”
“Are you okay? Is it a fever?”
“No it’s not. Look, just leave me alone.”
“Daren? Please tell me what’s wrong.”
“I said leave me alone!”
“Daren…”
“I want to break up. With you…”
Katherine’s hand flew to her mouth. She shook her head in disbelief. “This isn’t real. You’re kidding right? You’re just joking.”
Daren shook his head. “I’m serious.” Katherine opened the door and dashed out of Daren’s room. Berry barked and ran after her owner. Daren collapsed onto his bed. He had used up every ounce of his energy to force out that sentence. The sentence that hurt Katherine deeply… And hurt him even more…
Katherine covered her face with her pillow and sobbed. Berry kept jumping around the room, wondering what happened. Berry leaped and landed on Katherine’s soft and comfortable bed. Berry licked Katherine and barked. “Berry… Berry… What am I to do… Berry…” Katherine hugged Berry tightly. Berry whined and licked Katherine’s face.
