Chapter 1
The classroom of 3-2 is filled with voices of students chatting and students chasing one another like little kids. The female lead of this secondary school romance is Joyce Lim, 15 years old. Joyce went to school as usual and walked into 3-2. “Morning Joyce!” Isabel rang out as soon as Joyce sat down. “Morning.” Joyce returned the greeting with a smile. “Why are you so late today?”
“June woke up late.”
June Lim, 13 years old. She is the sister of Joyce and is currently studying in the same secondary school as her sister. Nicknamed ‘Lazy Bug’.
“June again? She’s bound to get you late someday!”
Joyce shrugged her shoulders and took out the books required for first period. “Enough of her. Let’s talk about something else. Have you heard about the new transfer student?” Isabel continued enthusiastically. Joyce shook her head and looked at Isabel. “I heard that it’s a ‘he’!” Isabel grinned at Joyce. Joyce turned back to her textbooks, pretending that she did not understand what Isabel had meant. “Aww. C’mon!” Isabel pushed Joyce lightly. “I’m really not interested in getting a boyfriend.” Joyce gave up. Just then, Mdm Tan walked in. “Quiet, class!

Mdm Tan walked in with a boy behind her. “Class, this is our new classmate Jun Wei.” Mdm Tan announced. The class clapped and cheered loudly, causing Jun Wei to blush slightly. Jun Wei had shiny black hair and his dimples shows when he smiles. “Kawaii!” Isabel gasped in her seat behind Joyce. Joyce had her eyes fixed on Jun Wei. There seem to be a force that’s attracting her to him. At that very moment, Jun Wei’s eyes happen to look at Joyce. Both of them looked at each other and turned their face, embarrassed. “There’s an empty sit next to Joyce. Jun Wei, you can sit there.” Mdm Tan said and pointed to the empty sit beside Joyce. Joyce lowered her head as Jun Wei walked towards her. Finally, Jun Wei pulled out the chair and sat down. Joyce could only blush as Isabel kicked her chair.

“Class, turn to page 35 of your textbook!” Mr Shijya rang out. “Jeremy, you read the whole paragraph!” It was the last period, English. Joyce felt uncomfortable and fidgeted in her seat. They hadn’t talked all morning and Joyce noticed that he has been scribbling in his notebook. Suddenly, Jun Wei looked up. Joyce quickly turned and stared at her textbook. “Erm… Can I borrow your eraser?” Joyce blushed and her hand moved shakily to her pencil case. There was no eraser. Joyce turned her whole pencil case over and her stationeries were scattered all over her table. ‘I left my eraser with June!’ Joyce realized. “Sorry… I left my eraser with my sister when we were doing homework last night…” Joyce’s voice trailed off. “It’s okay. I’ll borrow from someone else.” Jun Wei flashed her a smile and turned to borrow an easer from Isabel. ‘Stupid June! Why didn’t you return me my eraser?’ Joyce scolded softly.

Isabel walked over to Joyce’s seat and stood in front of her. “How’s your day with Mr Handsome?” She whispered to Joyce. Joyce pushed Isabel and hurried to pack her bag. Just as she wanted to step out of the classroom, Jun Wei’s voice called out from behind her. “Bye bye!” Joyce stood rooted to the ground as Jun Wei walked passed her and down the corridor. “Joyce! Joyce Lim!” Isabel shouted into Joyce’s ear. “I heard you! There’s no need to shout so loud. I’m gonna be deaf soon!” Joyce complained and rubbed her ear. Isabel giggled and linked hands with Joyce, pulling her down the corridor.

“How exactly is your day with Jun Wei?” Isabel asked again and licked at her ice cream cone. “Aiya, like that lor!” Joyce replied. “Like that is how? What’s like that?” Isabel pressed further. “Stop asking. I don’t know!” Joyce started to look frustrated. “Okay okay. Fine I won’t ask.” Isabel’s mobile rang and she opened her bag to search for it. “Where’s my phone?” Isabel searched frantically for her phone. “Erm, it’s in your pocket?” Joyce pointed at the doggy chain which was hanging by her mobile phone outside her pocket. “Heh hehs.” Isabel answered her phone sheepishly. Joyce smiled and continued to lick her ice cream cone as she waited for Isabel to hang up her phone. “Sorry Joyce. Got to go!” Isabel said as soon as she hung up. Isabel waved and ran before Joyce could ask what was the matter. Joyce shook her head and started walking home alone.

Joyce walked as hummed to the tune she was listening to on her mp3. “Careful!” A guy’s voice rang out suddenly. Joyce looked up only to find a soccer ball flying towards her at full speed. Before she knew it, the guy pushed her to the floor. “Are you okay?” Jun Wei asked anxiously. “I’m okay…” Joyce sat up and noticed the red trickling down Jun Wei’s arm. “You’re bleeding!” Joyce exclaimed. “Oh. Nothing serious. Just a scratch.” Jun Wei shrugged his shoulders and stood up. “No. It might catch an infection! Come to my house! I’ll dress your wounds for you!” Joyce insisted and pulled Jun Wei home despite his protests.

“Ah girl, Jun Wei, time for dinner!” Mrs Lim shouted for the two kids to come for their dinner. “Ah girl! Jun Wei!” Mrs Lim shouted again before disappearing back to the kitchen. “Sorry Jun Wei. I only wanted to dress your wounds. I didn’t know my mother would ask you to stay for dinner…” Joyce said as the both of them sat at the dining table. “It’s okay.” Jun Wei flashed a reassuring smile at Joyce. Joyce nodded gratefully. “Jun Wei, why don’t you stay for dessert too!” Mrs Lim said as she sat down with the two children. “Ma! He has to go home la!” Joyce replied, embarrassed. “Aiya, these kind of things no need to be shy one. You stay for dessert okay?”
“I’m sorry. I have something on later.” Jun Wei replied apologetically.
“Never mind. Next time then!” Mrs Lim smiled and finally gave up on asking Jun Wei to stay. “Where’s June?” She turned to ask Joyce.
“She’s going to her friend’s birthday party today.” Joyce reminded her mother.
“I totally forgot about it!” Mrs Lim exclaimed so loudly that Jun Wei jumped.
“Ma! Eat your dinner la.” Joyce’s face turned red as a tomato and stuff rice into her mouth. Jun Wei stifled his giggles and continued to eat.

“Jun Wei! You must come again soon!” Mrs Lim shouted from the kitchen. “I will! Thank you auntie for the delicious dinner!” Jun Wei shouted back as he tied his shoelace. “Sorry Jun Wei. Had I known I wouldn’t have bought you to my house.”
“Why? Chasing me away?”
“Huh?! No… It’s not that… But… Don’t you find that my mother is a bit too…”
“Too what? Actually, I really admire you. You have such a fun mother unlike me. My mother hardly ever smiles.”
“Sorry.”
“You really like to apologise. It’s not even your fault!” Jun Wei smiled and said. “I’ve to go now. Bye.”
“Bye bye.” Joyce waved as Jun Wei stepped out of her house.
“Why are you still waving? I can’t even see Jun Wei anymore.” Mrs Lim said and stood behind Joyce. Joyce jumped and put down her hand immediately. “You like him right?” Mrs Lim grinned. “Nothing can escape my eyes. I know you like him!” Mrs Lim continued. “I don’t know what you are talking about.” Joyce blushed and ran back to her room.
