Howl 4
“You draw so beautifully!” Xuan complimented his sister.
“Really?” Rou looked up and grinned happily at her brother.
“Young Mistress and Young Master, there you are. I’ve been searching high and low for the both of you.” Housekeeper Zhao walked into a secluded corner of the garden.
“Uncle Zhao!” Rou greeted the housekeeper and showed him her artwork excitedly. “Pretty flowers.”
Housekeeper Zhao smiled and nodded. “But Young Mistress, it’s time for your piano lesson now. Please come with me.”
Rou looked sadly at her drawing and then back at Housekeeper Zhao.
“Young Mistress.” Housekeeper Zhao called again.
Rou stood up unwillingly and left her drawing at the bench…

The lady brought Rou to a room on the furthest end of the corridor. “I gather you’re here to sort out your mind too?”
Rou stared at the lady blankly. “Uh… Yeah.”
The lady nodded her head excitedly. “This room would suit you perfectly then. If there’s anything you need, I’ll be downstairs.”
Rou bowed slightly at the lady and pushed open the door. The fragrant smell of lilies immediately greeted her. Rou smiled at the vase of lilies by the window. Perhaps my stay here wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Lan Yi Xuan tightened his grip on Sheryl. “Director! You cannot throw her out!”
“And why can’t I do so?” the Director glared at Sheryl.
“She is my life.” Xuan stood up and pulled Sheryl behind him.
“Lan Yi Xuan!” the Director growled as the door closed behind Xuan and Sheryl.

“Miss, what’s your name?” Rou rolled her eyes at yet another guy who was drooling over her. “I’ve been following you around for three days already. Why wouldn’t you speak up?”
Rou snapped her book shut and decided to head back to her room. How irritating. I can’t even read in peace.
“Miss!” the guy continued to run after Rou. “I really want to get to know you! Why can’t you just give me a chance?”
“Simply because, you and I are from two different worlds.” Rou opened her mouth to speak to the guy for the first time.
The guy smiled happily. “You’re talking to me! You’re talking to me!” the guy repeated like an idiot.
“Shut your trap.” Rou said coldly. “I will never be interested in a guy like you.”

Rou did not notice another guy who has been watching her ever since the first day she was at the village. “Why act so cocky? It’s not like you’re any better than those villagers.” he sneered and turned back to his laptop.

“Hubby… where could our Rou be?” Mrs Lan Yi cried.
“I do not know. I have already sent as many people as possible to look for her.” the Director sighed.
“Send all our men! Contact everyone you know!”
“My wife, you know I can’t do that. I’ll only endanger Rou if more people know that she is missing.”
“What can we do then… what can we do…”

Rou stared at the vase of lilies. The lady seemed to like lilies a lot. A vase of fresh lilies could be found in all possible corners of the inn. Suddenly, Rou had an urge to draw. This is impossible… I have given up on this useless inspiration of mine ever since I got my position as manager in the company… Eventually, her mind gave in to the struggle. Before she knew it, Lan Yi Rou was sketching out the vase of lilies.

“Miss.” it was the lady. “Would you like to join us for dinner tonight?”
Rou opened her door slightly. “No thanks. I…”
“Alright, it’s settled then. I’ll set your chopsticks and bowl as well.” the lady interrupted and scurried off.
“I didn’t say I would join you…” Rou whispered as she watched the lady walk further down the corridor. “Forget it.”

“Miss, help me carry these dishes out to the table.” the lady passed Rou a stack of plates. Rou’s eyes grew wide open as she almost dropped the whole pile.
“Be careful!” the lady warned and went back into the kitchen.
“What do I do with these? They feel so fragile…” Rou muttered as she took a step out. The plates in her arms started to wobble. “Oh my…”
“You have to hold them tighter.” the voice belonged to a muscular looking guy. “The only thing you are good at is acting cocky eh?” he arranged the plates in Rou’s hands.
“What do you mean by that?” Rou snapped. “Who are you anyway?”
“Oh, that’s Skye.” the lady said as she walked out of the kitchen carrying a few plates of rice. “He has been staying here for quite sometime already.”
“Skye?” Rou glanced at the guy. “Well, I guess the only thing you’re good at is acting ungentlemanly.”
Rou’s words set Skye flying into a rage. “We’ll see about that.”

“Miss, would you mind if I ask you a question?” the lady asked as she stuffed her mouth with rice, an action which was uncouth according to Rou’s mother. “I’d like to know your name. It’s weird calling you miss all the time.”
Rou glanced at Skye and returned her gaze to the lady. “Lan Yi Rou.” I doubt anyone of them know of Lan Yi Electronics anyway. It’ll probably be safe to use my real name.
“Lan? That’s quite an unusual surname…” the lady said.
“No. My surname is Lan Yi.” Rou corrected her.
“Lan Yi?” Skye gasped. “You said your surname is Lan Yi?”
