Howl 9“Xuan, how have you been?” Rou’s emotions were overwhelming. It has been ages since she talked to her brother.
“I’m fine. What about you? How is my pampered little sister getting about out there? Must’ve been hard for you to adapt to the change.” Xuan’s voice sounded tired.
“I’m doing perfectly fine here. Something must have happened at home, you can never hide anything from me!” Rou knew immediately that something was wrong. “Is Madam making things difficult for you? Or…”
“No, it’s not related to you. It’s just… It’s my problem with Sheryl. Director and Madam are trying to break us up.” Xuan sighed.
“Sis? I wish we grew up in a normal family. Perhaps then we would be able to choose our own future. I’ll probably go down the path to being an artist, and you’ll get married with sis.” Rou has always liked Sheryl. She was straight forward, and yet kind hearted.
“Forget it. I just called because I missed you too much. I’m glad that you’re doing fine. I’ve to go now. Take good care of yourself.” Xuan hung up before Rou could say anything in reply.
Rou stared at her phone, feeling upset and disappointed.
Has my run from home not changed their way of thinking at all? Haven’t I affected them one single bit? Why are they still acting so authoritatively? Why…“Rou! Lan Yi Rou! Open up!” Skye banged heavily on the door. “Wake up!”
Rou shuffled herself to the door and unlocked it. Almost immediately, Skye burst into her room. “Why are you still sleeping? Haven’t we agreed to go for a date today?” Skye’s words sent a striking blow to Rou, refreshing her memory instantly.
“Let’s go on an actual date.” Skye smiled suggestively.
“Actual… Date?” Rou turned to look at Skye, not able to comprehend what he meant.
“Yeah. You know, like couples always hang out together to watch movies and whatnot. Let’s have a date.”
Rou stared at Skye and slowly nodded her head. It doesn’t sound half bad…
As Lan Yi Rou walked out of the inn, she noticed that Skye looks different today. He seemed to have dressed up especially for the date. “You look good.” she complimented. Skye grinned happily. He had gotten up extra early this morning to get dressed, and it was worth it. “You look pretty too…” he was about to compliment Rou in return when he saw what she was wearing - a plain shirt coupled with a mini skirt. “Why on earth are you dressed… In these?!”
Skye remained pouting as they sat in the bus. “Come on, are you gonna stay that way the whole day? How ungentlemanly.” something told Rou that this would work.
“Ungentlemanly? Me? Are you sure?” Skye sat up straight and the pout on his face was replaced by a smile. “I’m the one and only gentlemen left on earth yeah.” Rou laughed aloud and had a sudden urge to tickle him. She reached for Skye’s waist and before he knew it, he was shouting for mercy.
“Skye… This place is beautiful!” Rou gasped at the scenery outside the bus. “Why didn’t I see this when I came?”
“Bet you’re sleeping.” Skye leaned over to look at the scenery Rou was so wowed about. It was indeed very pretty… “Excuse me, we’re alighting here.” Rou stood up suddenly and shouted. The bus driver slowed the bus to a stop and Rou jumped off the steps with Skye following closely behind her. “Rather than the movies in an uncomfortable seat, I’d rather lie on this patch of pasture grass and watch the sky.” Rou raised both hands above her head and spun around. “Whee~” Rou squealed as she spun around.
“Whoa, slow down! I didn’t know you’re a ballerina.” Skye reached over to stop Rou from spinning. The sudden stop caused Rou to lose her balance and fell onto the ground, bringing along with her Skye. The both of them giggled and laughed as they rolled about on the grass, enjoying themselves. Rou was right. The movies are no match for nature.
“Do you know of this saying?” Skye broke the silence. “If one wants to walk fast, one will have to walk alone. If one wants to walk far, two must walk together. I want to walk far with you, and as we go along, we’ll experience and learn many things together.” Skye held on tightly onto Rou’s hand. Rou turned her head to look at Skye who is lying beside her. “You’re a deep person.” she concluded. Skye merely smiled and turned to face her with his back. Rou spaced out looking at Skye’s back.
There’s still much I have to learn about you it seems…Rou and Skye could hear shouts even before they reached the inn. There was a loud smash and Auntie May was yelling. They sprinted towards the inn to find three men dressed in all black. “Skye, it’s dangerous here! Bring Rou away!” Auntie May shouted. Skye was about to pull Rou away from the inn when she went towards the three. “Young Mistress.” they greeted and bowed in unison. “Young Mistress?!”
“Young Mistress?!” Auntie May felt that her head was about to burst. This was too much for her to handle in a day. “I’m sorry Auntie May.” Rou hung her head low. “They have came for me. I’m sorry to have implicated you.” Rou glanced at the tables and chairs which have been toppled over. “I’m really sorry.” she wanted to talk to Skye, but was not given the opportunity to do so.
“Young Mistress. Sorry for the imprudence.“ the three men started to drag Rou out of the inn and into a car.
“Rou! Let go of her right now! Rou!” Skye chased after the car, shouting and yelling like a madman. Rou felt moisture in her eyes as the car pulled further and further away.
Skye… “This is not the end!” Skye slowed down and shouted with all of his remaining strength. “This is not the end!”

peacefulness is over, here comes a humongous storm! :D
if you'd noticed, the small para on Rou's childhood which is on every chapter is now gone. that para was meant to show how Rou grew up etc. if you're meticulous enough, you should've spotted that her childhood revolved around only the same two person, Housekeeper Zhao and Xuan. her life has always revolved only around them, and from now onwards, it's not just them anymore. there's also Skye...
