Chapter 23: ReunionRi In jumped out from her hiding place behind Changmin and rushed forward. “Hye Jin! What happened to you?” Ri In reached her hand towards Hye Jin, only to have it smacked off.
“Back off, we’re here to seek treatment.” Genie stood protectively in front of Hye Jin. “Jung Yunho, we need you to save Hye Jin!”
“But of course. I’m a doctor.” Yunho took over the limp body and took big strides into a nearby room. Placing Hye Jin gently on the bed, Yunho took out his stethoscope. “She’s in a very bad shape. I will have to operate on her immediately.”
Much as Ri In wanted to stay, Jaejoong reminded her that morning is approaching and Junsu would be waking up soon. If she wants to pretend she does not know of his killer identity, she’ll have to leave. Taking a few last glimpses at everyone, Ri In sighed and picked up her bag. Micky followed behind her, offering her a ride home. “Things would be okay.” she told herself repeatedly. “Junsu’s fine, and Hye Jin will be too.”
“Hero.” Genie approached Jaejoong. “There is something I must explain on behalf of Hye Jin.”
“Hmm?” Jaejoong turned to look at her. It was his first proper conversation with this girl, and the first time he saw her features up close. No doubt she’s a pretty lady. ‘Exactly my type…’
“This…” Genie produced the photo of Junsu and Hee Bon. “It turns out somehow that Hye Jin is Hee Bon’s sister. She overheard Kim TaeYeon saying that Junsu was the one who raped her sister and caused her to be mentally unstable. She stole my poison in attempt to avenge Hee Bon.” as Jaejoong reached for the photo, his fingers brushed against Genie’s. He jolted backwards, feeling a tingling sensation at the spot where their skins touched.
“Jaejoong!” Changmin yelled out. “Shouldn’t we get Hee Bon out to see Hye Jin then?”
“Are you saying that the girl is here right now?” Boss who has been silent the whole time finally spoke up…
Jaejoong held onto Hee Bon’s hand encouragingly as he led her out of the underground ward. “Hee Bon, Hye Jin is here. You remember her? She’s here to see you…” Jaejoong whispered gently. Hee Bon nodded her head in reply, head hung low constantly. The mention of her only relative whom she thought was dead is here to visit her made her excited. A feeling which has been absent ever since that night two years ago…
Hee Bon started screaming as soon as she reached the main hall however, as her sight landed on the man who caused her to be what she is today. Hands covering her face, she wanted to run back to her ward. “Calm down! Hee Bon, try to calm down!” Jaejoong held her tightly in his embrace. “It’s okay, Jaejoong and Changmin, we’re both here to protect you. Yunho is inside having an operation on Hye Jin. We’re all here, all close to you…”
Somehow, Genie felt something tugging at the corner of her heart when she saw Jaejoong being so intimate with Hee Bon. Cuddling the girl, whispering into her ear. She felt something she has never feel before her entire life spent with the Boss. She felt jealousy.
Hee Bon was still screaming hysterically when Yunho walked out of the operation theater. “What on earth is going on here?” he went over to help with the pacifying of Hee Bon. “Hee Bon, Hye Jin might not make it. She’s very weak now. Would you see her?” Yunho broke the news gently. Hee Bon stopped crying immediately and looked at Yunho.
“Bring me to her! I want to see my sister!” Hee Bon shook Yunho by the shoulders. “What’s wrong with her? Wasn’t she here to visit me?”
“She… got into an accident.” Yunho picked up the signal Jaejoong gave. “A very bad accident.”
“Sis…” Hee Bon held on tenderly to Hye Jin’s hand. Hye Jin shifted her gaze slightly onto Hee Bon. Tears rolled down her cheek, but she was unable to utter a word to her long lost sister. The pain going through her right now was unbearable, so much so that she could not even open her mouth to talk. But this is enough. She got to see her sister for the last time, and this is enough. Slowly, Hye Jin closed her eyes, a tiny smile forming. “Sis! Hye Jin!” Hee Bon shouted. “Sis! Wake up, you can’t leave me here!”
“Why? Why must she be taken away from me again?” Hee Bon was devastated. Whilst Boss and Genie went to take a last look at Hye Jin, everyone crowded around Hee Bon, trying to get her over the lost. Junsu walked out of Yunho’s bedroom slowly, awoken by the commotion going on outside. Nearing the crowd, Junsu saw a girl sitting on the floor, crying her eyes out. ‘She looks awfully familiar…’
Hee Bon looked up at the exact same moment, her sight meeting Junsu’s. Her legs found strength to stand up again as she climbed up from the floor. Everyone turned to look at what got her attention. Jaejoong let out a gasp and Changmin attempted to bring Junsu away. “What are you doing out here? Go back and rest.”
“No.” Junsu refused, pushing Changmin away. This girl is awfully familiar… he knew her somewhere…
“Junsu…” Hee Bon called out. “Su…”
As soon as Junsu heard her calling his name, he felt intense pain shooting through him. Clutching on tightly onto his hair, he looked up at Hee Bon again. Lights were flashing pass his eyes, blinding him. Finally after what seemed like eternity, Junsu let go of his grip on his hair. Tears welling up in his eyes, he spread his arms apart and embraced the girl who caused such an impact on him. “Hee Bon… Hee Bon…”
