Howl 13
Lan Yi Xuan wheeled his luggage out of the airport happily. “Finally back where I belong!” he exclaimed as he spotted the love of his life running his direction. “Sheryl! I missed you so much…” Xuan hugged Sheryl tightly and pecked her on the cheeks.
“I missed you too… Christmas without you wasn’t the same anymore.” Sheryl felt moisture accumulating in her eyes. At a single bat of her eyelid, the large teardrops spilled out onto her beautiful face.
“Don’t cry, I’m back now isn’t it?” Xuan comforted her. He has been away for many business trips before, but this was the first time Sheryl cried. It seems that she has really reached her limits…

Rou was astonished at how large Skye’s company was. She was used to large companies since her family owned one themselves, but that was nothing compared to Global. Skye laughed at Rou’s cute expression. “Get used to it then, since you’ll probably be coming here to visit me a lot more often after we get married.”
“Who said I’ll marry you?” Rou crossed her arms and turned the other direction.
“You sure your parents would let you escape from me so easily? I bet your mother can’t wait for you to marry me.” Skye smiled sarcastically at the thought of Madam. The cute expression disappeared from Rou’s face immediately. She might not like her mother, but she does not want to hear negative comments about her either. Skye noticed the abrupt change in atmosphere and quickly pulled Rou into an embrace. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it that way.” Skye whispered. He suddenly felt fear rushing through him. Tightening his hold on Rou, Skye tried to calm his heart, assuring himself that Rou would always be with him.

Rou stepped into the lift with her hands deeply entwined to Skye’s. A question suddenly popped into her mind. “Skye, do you know why there are mirrors in lifts?” she grinned cheekily, half expecting Skye to give her the wrong answer. “So that the wheelchair bound people can see the level display without having to turn around.” Skye pulled Rou closer to him. Rou lifted her head up and stared at Skye. “Is there something on my face?” Skye revealed his killer smile. Rou lowered her gaze to the floor. “I thought you’ll give answers such as ‘to check their appearance’ or ‘so that the lift would look more spacious’.”
“Do you really think that I’m such a superficial person? Having grown up as a orphan, I know better than anyone else to put others before self and to think in other people’s shoes.” Skye’s expression became serious. As Rou listened to Skye’s words, she could not help but feel that she has a lot more to learn about Skye.

“What’s this?” Skye bent down for the letter by his doorstep. “It’s addressed to you.” he passed the letter to Rou and turned back to unlock the door. Inspecting the envelope carefully, Rou reached a conclusion. This is definitely not from anyone close to her, for the handwriting was foreign.

Once Skye left Rou alone in the room for his bath, she tore the envelope open. There was only a piece of paper, with two words written on it. “You’ll pay.” Rou rasped. Her fingers shook and lost the ability to hold onto the paper. As Rou watch it flutter to the ground, she felt a sudden chill down her spine. ‘What does it mean by I’ll pay? Who would send such a letter here…’

Lan Yi Rou speared at her meal absentmindedly, her eyebrows closely knitted together. Skye could feel the change in her. Ever since they got back home, she has been this way. “Rou… what’s wrong?” Skye placed his big, warm hands on Rou’s. “I’m always here to listen to you.” Rou shook her head and forced a smile. It would be better not to let Skye know…

Skye tossed and turned in the bed, and jolt awake suddenly. He turned to his right for the familiar figure of Rou sleeping peacefully beside him, breathing soft rhythmic breathes. ‘Where’s Rou?’ the question popped into his mind. She was not lying beside him. He fingered the creases in the bed sheet and quickly stood up in search for her. He scanned the house for the possible shadow of his beloved. Finally, he spotted Rou sitting on a chair at the balcony. Her face appeared pale under the moonlight, nearly bloodless. “What is she doing out there? It’s so cold…” Skye hurriedly walk towards the balcony.

“Rou…” Skye called softly. Lan Yi Rou turned her head and quickly got up from her seat. “Why aren’t you sleeping?”
“I should be the one asking that question. You’ve been acting strange all night.” Skye voiced out his thoughts. “I don’t want you to have anything hidden from me.”
With a sigh, Rou swipe the letter off the table and handed it to Skye. His features scrunched together in fury as he threw the letter off the balcony. “Bastard, whoever sent this to you had better not let me catch him!” he exploded. Grabbing Rou’s arms, he pulled her into an embrace. “Don’t worry. I’ll be here to protect you from any danger.”

Rou woke up only at midday. Yawning, she walked into the study since she heard the typing of keyboard. True enough, Skye was sitting in front of his desk, typing away at the computer. “Morning, love.” Skye stood up and walked over to plant a kiss on Rou’s forehead. Rou smiled and hugged Skye in response. She felt better after telling Skye about the threat letter. Maybe that’s why they say that it’s better not to bottle things up within oneself… Rou had already swallowed too much down her throat in the past few years at Lan Yi.
