Sitting in the cold and music studio, Yunho noticed almost immediately - since they were all sitting close to each other for body warmth - that his ‘neighbour’ in class was missing. Something must be wrong with him. Something very wrong. He wasn’t one to be easily interested or concerned about a certain person, but he was worried about his new neighbour. ‘What in the world is happening to me?’
Since it was free sitting, Li Yin sat beside him with a few of the girls she has made friends with. Seeing her talk so happily to them, Yunho let out a relieved sigh. At least it doesn’t seem that history will have a high chance of repeating itself. Or will it?
“Alright, grab a partner and we’ll get started with the warming up of our vocals!” Miss Chu snapped her fingers. The students started to break apart, small groups of two forming. Li Yin naturally turned to Yunho. Just then, a few guys came up to them. “Excuse me, would you be my partner?” they asked simultaneously. One even reached out and grabbed Li Yin’s hand all of a sudden. Fear and anger flickered in her eyes as she flung the hand away. It was becoming somewhat like a show for the class as everyone started to surround them. Yunho quickly pulled Li Yin behind himself. “Please respect Li Yin. She does not wish to partner with anyone else except for me.” what he said caused a stir in the class. Hushed voices were heard as they discussed the two amongst themselves. Miss Chu shook her head and shouted loudly to get everyone’s attention. “Don’t bother the new kids, please! I don’t want you guys to scare them off right at the beginning of the semester! Li Yin has her right to choose her own partner too. Or would you all rather I pair you up instead?” the murmurings died out as soon as Miss Chu finished her sentence. The crowd dispersed and went to their assigned positions whilst the guys walked away while glaring at Yunho. Yunho seemed to have gained anti fans in a couple of minutes and it’s just the first day of school. This is not at all good.

There were two new classmates today. The girl is called Li Yin, and she is assigned to sit beside me in class. The guy is Yunho, and he is sitting in your old seat beside xiaoxi. Can you believe it? I mean, why would a teacher assign the new kids to a nerd like me, and a believed-to-be jinx of the class? Isn’t it too much of a coincidence…?

“差點害了你(I almost got you into trouble)” Li Yin had an apologetic look on her face. Yunho shook his head firmly and patted Li Yin’s head. “It’s the job of a bodyguard to protect his mistress. Plus, the place seems a bit weird, with a nerd-liked boy sitting beside you and a jinx let loose in the campus. 要小心防提啊(I’d better step up my guards).” Yunho smiled and left Li Yin sitting in the living room. When he returned, he had a box of chocolates in his hands. Li Yin’s face brightened up considerably, seeing her favourite snack. Yunho grinned as Li Yin pawed him for the chocolates. Having been passed the box, Li Yin skipped to the couch and started munching happily. That was the snack he found her with when he first saw her. The snack held by a crying girl…

If you think like the rest of them, believing that I’m jinx, then I can only say you’re too shallow. Wait, perhaps I’m shallow as well - I do believe in it too. Ever since Ying Jie’s death, really unlucky things would happen to people who are close to me. I don’t know how it happened either, but it just did. The class concluded that Ying Jie’s death had something to do with me, and I was jinx so on and so forth. Even though there was no proof of any sort, there was no explanation as well. I cannot comprehend why Miss Chu would plant a transfer beside the class jinx. Maybe if I did self learning at home today, he wouldn’t be as unlucky to be sitting with me.

Stirring in his bed, Junsu groaned as he relived the past in dreamland. He saw flashes of Guigui playing pranks on the classmates and giggling. He saw flashes of her waking him in the morning with a ‘icy cold treatment’ as she puts it, which is to actually to pour a bucket of ice on him. He also saw a flashback of that day. During the class outing to the beach, she was swept away by the sudden strong currents. Despite her loud screams and shouts, she still drowned because nobody could swim out against the waves and the wind. Jerking awake, Junsu shot up from his position on the bed with beads of perspiration trickling down his forehead. Slowly, he climbed out of bed and made his way towards his laptop. Switching it on , he browsed through the folders which contained photographs of Guigui. Junsu sighed heavily. He knew it’s going to be a sleepless night again.
Li Yin kept changing positions in her bed, unable to sleep at all. From the silence which surround the house, she concluded that Yunho must be asleep. Lowering her feet to the ground, she tiptoed to the couch in her room. Li Yin hugged her legs close to her chest and laid her head on top. The past hasn’t visited her in a long while, and just when she thought it’s gone, it came back again to haunt her tonight. Li Yin closed her eyes tightly, wanting to squeeze out the images of her once-stepfather and replaced him with the thoughts of her current step parent instead.
