Junsu gave off an eerie feel as he walked through the corridors. He had donned on all black today. It’s like as if he appeared to be more attractive to the student body, for everyone had their sights set on him. He shifted his thick glasses uncomfortably and quickly shuffled into his classroom. As soon as he stepped in, he realised that he wasn’t the only one in black. Xiaoxi had her back to him, but from her posture, he knew it had to be her. They were once good friends after all…

“Rest in peace.” xiaoxi muttered and placed a bouquet of white roses on the table which used to belong to Ying Jie, or rather, Guigui.
“It has been a year… how time has flied…” Junsu spoke up, startling the girl. Xiaoxi turned around, but limited her eyes to only the floor. Junsu opened up his bag and brought out a single stalk of daffodil. Only he knew this - Guigui’s favourite flower. He laid the yellow flower amongst the white roses. It made a stark contrast. Just like how Guigui used to stand out amongst the students being the bubbly and outgoing girl she is. The two kept to silence, each thinking about the dead girl. Until a voice interrupted the peace in the empty classroom.

“What are you guys doing to my table?” Yunho’s eyebrows were scrunched together. Xiaoxi picked up her bag to make her way out of the classroom whilst Junsu returned to his seat at the corner of the class. Yunho had tons of questions whirling, but he kept mum. Li Yin who has been standing by the door turned to look at the girl in black as she walked past her. They held an eye contact which lasted for barely a second. Li Yin scratched her head as she watched her classmate disappear down the corridor.

It was only when Miss Chu entered the class did Yunho understand the meaning of the flowers which were scattered on his desk. Miss Chu requested that the class remain silent for a minute and to think about their deceased friend. As Yunho shut his eyes, he thought about how both Junsu and xiaoxi have been wearing black, and how they might be related to this Ying Jie person. When Miss Chu spoke again, Yunho opened his notebook which was laid on the temporarily desk he had borrowed. Instead of taking down the notes, he starting doodling.

“Witch!” a guy shrieked and started throwing water balloons at the girl in black who was walking past him. She did not shun, neither did she yell for him to stop. She simply kept her head lowered and tried to shelter her bag from the attacks. Li Yin who happened to walk out of the class to visit the restroom saw the sight. Rushing forward, she pushed the guy. “A gentlemen wouldn’t pick on girls!” she recognised him as the one who grabbed her hand yesterday in the music studio. “Should I tell Miss Chu that you’ve skipped your lessons?” the boy made a face at Li Yin before walking away angrily. When Li Yin turned towards the spot where xiaoxi was standing just moments ago, all she saw was a puddle of water on the floor and a post it note stuck on the wall.

“Thank you for helping me… 為什麼不親自告訴我? (why didn’t she say that to me in person?)” Li Yin muttered as she dug into her salad.
“What did you say?” Yunho looked up from his lasagna. “Who didn’t thank you in person?”
“Your partner. Xiaoxi? Yes, I think that’s her name. I saved her from a guy who was picking on her when I went to the restroom between lessons earlier on. I merely had my back to her for a sec, and when I turned back she’s gone. All she left was a post it saying thanks.” Li Yin twirled the ends of her hair, not at all interested in her lunch. Yunho returned his fork to the plate before him and looked at Li Yin seriously. “You know what I heard? That girl named xiaoxi, she’s a real jinx. Don’t go too near to her.” he didn’t know how that came about, neither was he interested. But if it was possible for such a belief to exist, then there must be something which he doesn’t know, something that can prove it to be true.

Making use of lunch, Junsu pulled out his laptop from his bag and started typing. It was not an unusual thing, for he always wrote to Guigui. Anyone who happened to see him with a laptop or with a notebook can easily guess that he’s writing to Guigui. Deeply in love with her and can’t pull out indeed. Occasionally, he lifted his head to take a look at the desk which Yunho has politely left untouched. Seeing the daffodil, he was again reminded of his past with Guigui. Whipping off his spectacles, he burrowed his head into his arms. Thinking about their past always gives him a headache. But it was the only way he could see Guigui again.

----------

Dear Guigui,

It has been a year since you left me. Time passed by really fast… xiaoxi laid a bouquet of white roses for you. Did you receive them? I don’t blame her for your death anymore, but I guess she still blames herself. She couldn’t even look at me in the eye. I wanted to say more to her, but she wasn’t in class today. She must’ve went to the library for self study again. Guigui, will you visit me tonight? Please just visit me tonight, okay? I haven’t been having any good night’s sleep recently. Seeing you would definitely beat any sleeping pills.

But, please… no more nightmares pertaining to your death… I can’t bear watching you die over and over again every night in my dreams…
Watching the roaring sea waves lick at your feet, sweeping you into the tangled mess. If only the waves were a little weaker that day, perhaps we could’ve saved you. If only xiaoxi called out for any one of us that day, we could’ve prevented you from dying…
