The ride back home was a quiet one. Li Yin sat with Yunho in front, while xiaoxi took the passenger seat at the back. The lively atmosphere at Junsu’s seemed to have died out unconsciously. Looking out of the window, xiaoxi thought about how her life has taken a drastic change in just a couple of days. Her life used to be well-planned and organized, until Yunho and Li Yin appeared. The twinkling stars in the sky reminded her of a certain night a few many years ago, when she went on a holiday with her mother to Jeju Island. That night, the mother and daughter spent their time at the beach, the mother telling many stories about the stars and constellations.
‘Mum, where are you now? Where are you…’

“Xiaoxi? Xiaoxi, wake up. We’ve reached home.” Li Yin shook xiaoxi lightly by her shoulders. The sleeping girl appeared too deep in her slumber to hear any of Li Yin’s words. Holding out a hand to stop Li Yin from shaking her further, he pulled Li Yin away from the car door slightly and bent down to scoop xiaoxi into his arms. Li Yin looked at him with a questioning face. “You could’ve just woken her.”
“But we’ll be interrupting what seems like a meeting with her most beloved person.” Yunho smiled faintly at Li Yin who had her head crooked as she pondered about what Yunho said.
“Some people used to say that if one person is so deep in slumber, it means that the person must be dreaming of his or her most beloved person.” Yunho explained. Li Yin nodded her head in understanding, reaching out a hand to sweep away the hair covering xiaoxi’s face. Deep inside her heart, she wish she could meet her biological parents too…

Sitting down beside xiaoxi, Li Yin traced her fingers along the photo frame in her hands. ‘I haven’t seen this picture before. Xiaoxi must’ve placed it on the table yesterday night while I was at Junsu’s…’ Li Yin placed it back in its original position and peeked at her friend-in-deep-slumber. “If one is sound asleep, the person is having a dream of his or her beloved… I haven’t been dreaming about my parents at all. But does that mean they’re not my beloved? It’s nothing but a myth.” despite saying that, Li Yin still felt slightly upset that she hasn’t dreamt of her parents at all ever since their death. Sure, she hallucinates in the beginning, but she soon got over the lost of her parents and the images stopped appearing. Lowering herself beside xiaoxi, she flicked the switch of the table lamp. Slowly drowning in sleepiness, she drifted off into a nightmare-filled sleep.

“Go away! Let go of me, you beast!” Li Yin waved her fists around frantically and shouted at the top of her lungs. Jolting awake, xiaoxi sprung up and struggled to stop Li Yin from strangling her. “You beast, you don’t deserve to live at all! Bunch of bastards, all guys are the same!” Li Yin continued hollering as she tightened her grip around xiaoxi’s neck. Gasping for breath, xiaoxi made futile attempts to escape from Li Yin’s evil clutches. A pair of big, warm hands appeared suddenly and peeled Li Yin’s fingers off from her, causing her to choke from the sudden intake of air. Yunho hummed a soothing melody as he stroked Li Yin’s hair. Slowly, her cries and screams died down as she returned to sleep. Xiaoxi on the other hand, however, has lost all thoughts of wanting to sleep. Placing a finger on his lip, Yunho gestured for her to follow him out of the room quietly. Xiaoxi nodded and climbed off the bed, careful to tuck the blanket around Li Yin before she left.

“She’s having nightmares again. It’s been some time. Did you say anything to her which might’ve triggered her past memories?” Yunho placed the cup of warm milk before xiaoxi. Shaking her head, she reached for the drink gratefully. She badly needed something to calm her nerves after being assaulted in the middle of the night. “Li Yin lost her parents when she was young. They died from a plane crash. After receiving the horrific news, like as if her young soul wasn’t suffering enough, none of her relatives wanted to take her in. With no kin to look after her, she was sent to the orphanage, where soon after a couple took her in. It ended up that the father was an abusive husband and their son a perverted rogue. Thankfully, the mother returned Li Yin to the orphanage when the father-son pair wasn‘t in. It was sometime then did I meet her, the despondent and zombiefied Li Yin who forgot all about her dreams of becoming a violinist.”

“She wanted to become a violinist?” xiaoxi seemed taken aback. She has never seen Li Yin with a violin before. Yunho nodded his head and sighed. “Her biological parents were musicians. It was her father who taught her how to play the violin. After the accident with her first adoptive parents, she grew so depressed that she distanced herself from everyone, even her violin.”
“Thankfully, you appeared in her life and pulled her out of that depression and returned her ideals to her.” xiaoxi smiled at him.
“No, I’m not fully the reason. We became really good friends, but she was still wary of me. After all, the grudge she has for guys couldn’t be erased just so simply. When a couple wanted to take me in, I requested for them to take in Li Yin as well, if not I would not leave with them. They acceded to my request. It was around that period did Li Yin really started to trust me. It was our adoptive parents who encouraged her to pursue her dreams, to pick up her violin again. In order to protect her, I even became her bodyguard. Such a weird twist in events, right?” Yunho chuckled. Before xiaoxi could reply, the shrill ringing of alarm clock broke apart the peace which settled between the two. Xiaoxi stood up quickly and made her way to the bathroom. Halfway there, she stopped suddenly. Without turning back, she uttered a single sentence. “Good morning.”
