Xiaoxi’s eyes never left Li Yin’s face the entire time they had breakfast. When Li Yin looked at her, she would turn away and pretend to be looking elsewhere. but when Li Yin lowered her head to eat she’ll stare at Li Yin again. She knew it was rude, but she couldn’t stop herself. “What’s the matter? I know you’re looking at me.” Li Yin lowered her knife and fork. Xiaoxi looked at her sheepishly, knowing that she has been discovered and can’t pretend anymore. “I heard you’re a violinist… can I see your fingers?” Li Yin seemed taken aback at the abrupt question thrown at her. Xiaoxi quickly lowered her head again and poked at the sunny-side up with her fork. “It’s okay if you…”
“No, of course you can look at my hands. Here!”

Holding Li Yin’s hand in hers, xiaoxi turned it this way and that while gasping. I’ve never seen the hands of a violinist this up close before. You know, I’ve always been fascinated with violinist. They’re like so… perfect or something. Your hands are really smooth and all, nothing like what I’ve heard.”
“Well… what have you heard?” Li Yin said with a tiny smile playing on her lips.
“Violinist have rough hands, because they have to practice ever so frequently. they also have cuts and scars… and blisters…” xiaoxi’s voice trailed off when she saw Li Yin shaking her head.
“Maybe other people have got cuts and blisters. But not me. It’s like I’m born to play the violin… since I’m in the mood, shall I play you a piece?” Li Yin offered. A twinkle jumped around in xiaoxi’s eyes as she nodded her head eagerly. Silent through this whole process, Yunho stood on one side with his arms folded, an amused look on his face.

Eyes tightly shut, Li Yin allowed herself to be connected to the world she shared with her violin as she positioned the instrument at the crook of her neck. Slowly pulling the bow against the violin, a string of melodious notes flowed around the room. Sitting on the floor with xiaoxi, Yunho stifled a laughter as he watched how fascinated the jinx appeared to be. None of them spoke as the last note lingered in the air. Regaining herself, xiaoxi placed both her hands together and clapped enthusiastically. However, the sadness in her eyes was something she couldn’t hide. After replacing her violin in its case, Li Yin bent over to place an arm around xiaoxi. “She played the violin too… my mother played the violin too… but she gave up her dream, all for… for the school Director.” xiaoxi couldn’t bring herself to address the man as her father. Finally, a tear dropped onto her cheek…

Flipping his laptop open, a wave of realization hit Junsu. “I didn’t write the diary yesterday. Nor did I write in it the day before yesterday.” Junsu groaned as he thought of his broken promise to Guigui. He had promised before her tomb that he would write to her daily, updating on every little thing which happened to him. He promised to place her before anything else. Yet he broke the promise when he fell sick. And he had not once thought about Guigui in the two days. Pulling onto his hair, Junsu felt despair engulf him. Much as he didn’t want to admit it, this is his way of staying connected to Guigui. Ever since her departure, he has been afraid that he would forget her someday. He is afraid of facing life without her.

Flipping through the heavy photo album at the speed of lightning, Junsu forced himself to absorb the memory laid before him. However, he discovered something which frightened him further. He had forgotten a lot of what he shared with Guigui. He does not remember eating ice cream with her on their first date. He can’t even remember the exact location of their first date. Nor does he remember what Guigui has worn on their first date. Junsu skipped through tons of pages and opened up the album to the last few pages. Looking at him were pictures of him and Guigui cycling at the park. Finally seeing something which he has collection of, his breathing slowed and returned to its normal pace again. He remember cycling with Guigui. They went with xiaoxi that day. And the whole day had been fun-filled. He remember playing Frisbee after cycling. He remember sending Guigui home. He remember, he remember…

“My mother’s dream was to become a well known violinist. Once when she was performing, she met the Director. I guess it’s what you call love at first sight. They got married soon after, and my mother gave up on her violin because the Director was against it. When I was eight, my mother played the violin once for me in secret. It was the first and last time I heard my mother play the violin, because the Director happened to come in at that moment. He smashed the instrument in anger and shouted at my mother. That was when they started drifting apart…” xiaoxi fought down the rising bitterness which was brewing within her. Part of her felt relieved that she can finally let out what she has been hiding for so long, yet the other half of her was panicking. She had no intentions of letting anyone into her world at all. Yet by telling Li Yin and Yunho these, she is allowing them access. Subconsciously, xiaoxi shivered. ‘What if I bring ill luck to them? They just haven’t tasted the wrath of my powers yet. When they do, will it be even worse?’

Whilst Li Yin comforted xiaoxi, Yunho did nothing except to immerse in his own thoughts. ‘I should’ve hit that man hard when I had the chance to! He doesn’t deserve to be a husband and a father!’ an abrupt shove from Li Yin brought him back to his senses. Nodding when Li Yin signaled that she would be bringing xiaoxi back to their room, Yunho’s eyebrows furrowed together. What was that thought earlier on? Why is he so agitated at how xiaoxi and her mother has been treated? He’s usually not much of a busybody. Why is he being more and more involved in xiaoxi’s matters? He’s not acting like his usual self. Not at all.
