Love Bye Love 【Two-shot】- Part II

.: Recap :.

“It is so difficult to choose between me and her? She vanished for two years, Yunnie! She lied and left!”
“But she had her own reason, and I know the reason very well. Furthermore, my love for them already started years ago. You know how much I adore kids too, Jae... Jiyool is my flesh and blood.”
“What if you definitely have to pick one?”
“Jae… please don’t make me choose…” Yunho looked at Jaejoong pleadingly but was met with Jaejoong’s cold and determined eyes. “If I absolutely have to make a decision… that would be you. I’ll pick you, Jae…”

.: Love Bye Love [Part II] :.

After washing up, Ayumi carried Jiyool downstairs to find Yunho and Jaejoong talking in the living room. As soon as Jaejoong saw her, he whispered to Yunho and the latter went back upstairs, gazing longingly at Jiyool as he passed by the mother and daughter. “I hope you had a good rest last night, Ayumi.”
“What do you want to tell me?” Ayumi could tell immediately that Jaejoong had something to say.
“I hope you can hand Jiyool over to us. I assure you I will act as a good mother towards Jiyool. I can tell Yunho really wants this child and if he craves for this child so much, I will accept this child and raise her as I would raise my own.”
Hearing his words, Ayumi could guess what they have been discussing about before she came downstairs. Yunho had made his decision, and Jaejoong is the clear winner. Refusing to reply Jaejoong, also refusing to admit that she had lost to Jaejoong despite all the years she had spent with Yunho, Ayumi picked up her bag. Picking out a piece of paper with her written address on it, she placed in on the table. “Yunho is most welcomed to visit his daughter anytime, but I will never hand her over to you.” Having made her stand clear, she carried Jiyool and walked out of the house.
‘In the end he still chose him over us? What is Jiyool to him? He once vowed to never leave me. He did regardless of how he argued!’

Sighing, Jaejoong picked up the paper Ayumi left behind and stuffed it into his pocket. His heart isn’t made of steel; of course he ached seeing Yunho torn and felt guilty when Jiyool looked at him so innocently. But to each his own, and he couldn’t let go of Yunho just so easily after pouring out so much love and effort into making this relationship possible. He will have to find Ayumi tomorrow to convince her to pass Jiyool to him. That’s the only way for things to end perfectly.

Dragging her feet towards her one-room apartment, Ayumi placed her palm over her burning forehead and tried to steady herself. Letting herself into the apartment, she heard the loud wails from Jiyool and rushed to her cot immediately. “Jiyool, are you okay? Why did the nanny leave before time again?!” Ayumi wanted to dial for the nanny, but noticed that Jiyool was perspiring profusely. Her instincts told her that Jiyool is sick – just like her umma. Quickly getting her medicine, Ayumi hurried back to Jiyool to feed her the syrup. Jiyool shook her head and flailed her arms about, not liking the taste of medicine. “Be good, Jiyool. Drink this and you’ll feel better!” Ayumi tried to coax her. Jiyool started throwing the soft toys off her bed, feeling the discomfort but refusing the medicine. Shaking her own lightheadedness off, Ayumi finally cajoled the syrup down Jiyool’s throat. As soon as she tucked Jiyool in bed, Ayumi got out her mobile phone and sent a text message to Yunho for help.

Trying to clear up the mess, Ayumi felt her temperature rising steadily and her sight getting blurry. “Where’s Yunho…” she mumbled as she placed the cap back onto the bottle of medicine. In her unsteadiness, the bottle toppled over as she collapsed on the floor.

Glancing at the written address on the paper, Jaejoong peered at the dilapidated building and back at the paper. “This is the right address… but how can anyone possibly live here?” tightening his grip on the fruits basket he was carrying; he made uncertain steps up the uneven stairs.

Ringing the doorbell repeatedly, there was no answer. “Are they out?” Jaejoong tried to knock on the door but it creaked open slowly. “She didn’t lock the door?” pushing the door open, he poked his head in before carefully stepping in. The minute he was in the house, he saw the spilt syrup and Ayumi lying unconscious on the ground. Dropping the fruits basket, he dashed over and saw her flushed cheeks. Quickly calling Yunho, he cradled his mobile phone between his shoulder and ear while helping Ayumi onto the nearest chair.

Packing the files needed for work, Yunho reached a freehand over for his phone when he heard it vibrating. However, he dropped his stuff immediately when he heard what Jaejoong told him. Pushing work to the back of his mind, he darted out of the house, even forgetting his shoes. The only thing he could see was Ayumi’s image, balled up in pain and shivering. Cursing himself mentally for overlooking Ayumi’s poor health, he only wants to see her right this instant. Meanwhile, his mind kept flashing back, back to a distant memory years ago where he carried Ayumi all the way to the hospital in the middle of the night…

***

“Ayumi! Can you hear me? Don’t close your eyes, talk to me! Tell me your childhood, tell me how you felt when we first met, and tell me anything! Just don’t fall asleep!” Yunho shouted as he charged forward, ignoring the throbbing of his soles. All he knew was that he was afraid. Extremely afraid. He didn’t want to lose Ayumi; he dreaded the thought of waking up every day without her by his side. And letting her fall asleep was akin to letting her slip into eternal rest. He couldn’t do that. “Ayumi, wake up! We’re reaching the hospital soon!”

***

“Ayumi, can you hear me? We’re at the hospital! Ayumi!” Yunho shouted as he watched her being pushed into the ER. Beads of perspiration trickled down his forehead, but he couldn’t care less. Meanwhile, tears rolled down Ayumi’s cheeks as she subconsciously felt the warmth of Yunho leaving her as she got transferred onto the cold, hard hospital bed. “Yunnie! Your leg!” Jaejoong panted heavily as he finally caught up with Yunho. Looking down at his peeling and bleeding soles, Yunho shook his head. As compared to the guilt of missing Ayumi’s text message and ending up in hospital, his feet didn’t feel any pain at all. “I should’ve been there for her…”

***

Slowly struggling to get her eyes open, Ayumi blinked once, twice, and registered the image of a hospital. Supporting herself as she sat up, she instantly noticed the couple sleeping on the couch. Yunho was sitting upright, and Jaejoong’s head rested on Yunho’s lap. Their hands were entwined despite both of them being in a deep slumber. Pulling out the needle to the IV drip form her wrist, Ayumi got off the bed and made her way to the couple. “This is how much you love him… willing to give us up just to be with him.”

“Although I don’t want Jiyool to end up without a complete family, you have moved on…” faintly dragging her feet to the couple, she bent over in front of Yunho and held his free hand. “Although we promised to never leave each other, your heart drifted away from me. How could you? Because of this ring, I believe that we are fated.”Ayumi caressed the wedding band on Yunho’s hand. “This time you have to live blissfully and don’t let your heart suffer again.” Slowly sliding the ring off his finger, Ayumi felt her cheeks moistened from her tears as she leaned over to kiss him gently on the lips. “I know you will, because Kim Jaejoong would take good care of you. I can let go of you being assured your needs will be looked after and someone will take care of you when you’re ill because that person is Kim Jaejoong…” guiding his fingers, she slowly maneuvered them to remove her own ring.

Jaejoong’s eyelids slowly fluttered open, his hands rushing to his cheeks, astonished to find himself weeping. Meanwhile, Yunho jolt awake, surprised to find Ayumi missing from the bed. Turning to look at Jaejoong, he was even more astounded to see him crying. “Why are you crying? I heard Ayumi talking… about letting me go… what’s going on?” he tenderly wiped away the tears that never seem to cease falling.
“I heard her giving us her blessings…” Jaejoong sniffed and stood up. “But where is she? The drip isn’t even finished.”
Yunho nodded and unconsciously felt his ring finger for the wedding band – his habit of twisting the ring when he’s thinking. “My…” looking at his hand, he exclaimed immediately. “My ring is missing! Jae! My ring vanished! I told you before; it’s a ring that only the other half can remove. Ayumi removed mine!” Jaejoong glanced over for a brief moment and sensed something cold on his neck. Reaching for it, he felt a necklace hanging around his neck. “I didn’t wear any necklaces today…” peering at the necklace, Yunho gasped as it evoked his memories…

Smiling as Yunho put on the necklace for her, Ayumi fingered the carvings on the pendant gently. Yunho told her that this necklace means a lot to him because it was passed to him by his mother, to give to the love of his life. To be able to own this necklace now means that Yunho is giving her a promise to love her for the whole lifetime. As he slowly leaned in to kiss her, Ayumi secretly vowed that likewise, she would love him with all of her heart for as long as she lives too…

Frowning at the overturned remote control, Yunho dug deep into his memories for any inkling of when the word made its way onto every corner of the house. For the nth time in years, he found another ‘SHMILY’ written in marker. Jaejoong had no clue too when Yunho questioned him about it. The word just appeared in his life suddenly, the same time Ayumi vanished. Picking up the photo journal Ayumi left behind, he had a gut feeling that the word is closely related to her. Over the years, he had flipped through the journal countless time whenever he missed the happy times shared with her and the instant spent with Jiyool. Although he has Jaejoong now, he will treasure those precious memories.

Steadying her frail body, Ayumi placed the basket of sunflowers on the doorstep before ringing the doorbell. As soon as she heard footsteps, she made a run for the nearest tree and hid behind it, readying her Polaroid camera. Answering the door was Yunho, just as she hoped for. Ayumi smiled as she saw how well built he still was. Picking up the basket, he glanced left and right for the person who left it. “Who would… SHMILY?” he noticed the logo on the side of the basket. Not missing another minute, Ayumi quickly snapped the photograph which she wanted. Just then, Jaejoong returned with bags of grocery. Seeing that Yunho is too preoccupied to notice her, she took the opportunity to run from her hiding place.

Sticking the Polaroid to the photo journal she has been keeping conscientiously, Ayumi took out her pen and wrote below it. ‘Although I badly want to reach for your hand, you’ve long turned your back on me. How could love vanish this quickly without a trace? I’m like a fallen leaf from the tree, shriveled and unwanted. Will our memories eventually wither away too? I’m the only left to keep to our promise now. But longing is another form of happiness. Just thinking about you makes me blissful, because there’s someone important in my life that I can miss. SHMILY, Yeobo. See How Much I Love You.’

Slumped on the couch, Yunho dropped his briefcase by his legs and started removing his tie. Approaching him, Jaejoong offered a cup of warm tea to soothe the tension from work and turned on the television. “Oh? Exclusive interview with winner of dance competition? But she looks really young!” Jaejoong read aloud the headings onscreen. Yunho could not help but notice the two rings that the girl wore around her neck as the camera closed in on her. His heart skipped a beat as he noticed the similarity between the girl and Ayumi. Straining his eyes to get a good look at the rings, he was shocked by what the girl said next.

“I’m really sorry towards umma. As I grew up, I never respected her neither did I see her often. I live in the school dormitory to avoid seeing her. I even joined this dance competition and went to Japan accompanied by my dance teacher without informing her beforehand. Umma never told me where appa went, just saying that it’s her fault I’m fatherless. So I hated her. Why can’t I have an appa like normal people? Furthermore, she wouldn’t have to take on four jobs if appa was here. She sleeps for barely two hours a day yet I never appreciated her efforts to grant all my willful wants. Until one month ago, umma passed away in her sleep due to over exhaustion. Yet I didn’t know of it until I returned to Korea last night… I’m only left with my appa now. But where is he? Appa, where are you…?”

Do you see how much I love you?

-END-

A/N
hmm i know some parts might not really make sense, because i cut out a lot of scenes. there was actually a meeting between Yunho and Ayumi after many years, but i took that out. similarly for many other scenes where Yunho eventually reunites with Jiyool etc, because i was worried the two-shot is getting a tad too long it might become a three-shot T.T
anyway, this current ending leaves you to guess how the story eventually ends. you can imagine your own ending for this ^ ^
i'm planning Bad Woman in progress, please be patient with me :D
