Chapter 5: Necklace

“I recognised you immediately when you took the world by storm as the leader of DBSK. How can you forget about your promise to take care of me and always love me?” Sohee spat bitterly, leaving Yunho momentarily speechless. Regaining himself, he quickly rebuked. “I was forced into the marriage. I was forced into taking the vow. I don’t love you.” As soon as she heard his words, Sohee’s eyes glistened, brimming with tears. Although Jaejoong hated her to the core, he could not bear to see a lady cry. Tugging on Yunho’s arm, he dragged the man out of the room to leave Sohee to calm down.

“He said he doesn’t love me… he doesn’t love me?” Sohee repeated as she pulled out the necklace she was wearing from inside her blouse. Taking it off, she started outlining it with her finger. It was no special pendant with intricate carvings or expensive price tag that came along with it. It was a mere, simple stone pendant in pink with faint red streaks - her favorite colours. “How could he say something this hurting… even if he has Kim Jaejoong now, how could he? He isn’t an unfeeling person.” Sohee felt wetness along her cheeks. Sniffing, she placed it on the bed and quickly ran into the bathroom to wash her face…

“Was I too harsh on her? But what she did was unacceptable! How can I possibly forgive her after knowing that I’ve been tricked into this marriage!” Yunho pulled on his hair, torn between his feelings of anger and guilt. It was not his style to go down so roughly on a lady. He has always been sensitive to people’s feelings. Jaejoong patted his back, soothing him. ‘Guess this problem can’t be resolved so easily. It’s going to take some time. Hopefully, my patience won’t run thin before Yunho to resolves everything…’

After sending Jaejoong to the door, Yunho went back to the room with heavy footsteps. How should he go about to divorce her? Yoo Sohee will never easily let go of what she finally obtained. Will money do the trick? Will she divorce him if he gives her money? Yunho shook his head hard and pushed away those thoughts. It would be insulting if he offers her money. “What then? What should I do?” Yunho mumbled as he entered the room. Sitting on the bed, he noticed the necklace lying beside him. Growing curious, he slowly picked up the necklace. Almost immediately, he felt a wave of pain shooting through his head as he brought the necklace to eye level. Groaning as his head throbbed, he stared intensely at the necklace before dropping it back onto the bed.

Hearing painful groans, Sohee quickly dried her face with a towel and rushed out from the bathroom, just in time to see Yunho leave the room. “Are you okay?” she ran after him and pulled him by his arm. Yunho looked at her, wanting to ask about the necklace but had his reservations about it. Simply shaking his head, he went to the living room.

“Where have I seen that necklace before?” Yunho mumbled as he sat down, massaging his temples. He disliked the feeling of the feeling of possibly not knowing something. It made his heart feel empty somehow. “Where… was it during a DBSK performance? Or maybe… one of the students have a similar necklace?” Yunho sighed. The world is huge, he wouldn’t recall even if he has indeed seen the necklace somewhere else. Remembering his headache when he picked up the necklace, he quickly made up his mind to dismiss all thoughts related to it. The necklace should be the least of his problems right now.

“はい、お母さん。あまりにもご自身の健康の世話をしてください。(Yes, mom. Please take care of your own health too.)” Sohee hung up and smiled at the mobile phone wallpaper of her step parents. If not for them, she might not become the successful author she is today. They’d given her a good environment to grow up in, a chance to attend a prestigious school, and offered everything which she asked for. Although the thought of her birth parents’ death still saddens her, it was made bearable because of her step parents who treated her as their own. Perhaps it was because they are Koreans who had migrated to Japan too, she felt a sense of belonging in the family. Unknowingly uttering a sigh, Sohee picked up her necklace and put it back on. “What’s left now is just setting up a family of my own with Yunho.” clutching tightly onto the pendant, she smiled at her reflection in mirror, as if encouraging herself on.

Glancing at the clock which struck 9 PM, Sohee started to pick at the food which she spent the evening cooking, eating slowly as she eyed the clock. Yunho rarely stayed home ever since he found out about the truth. He returns home past midnight and sleeps in the guest room. Although she initially tried to move to the guest room to sleep with him, she gave up when he went to sleep on the couch in the living room. Regardless how angry she was, she could not let him sleep uncomfortably. Although chances of him returning to have dinner with her is slim, she made a table full of food everyday. ‘Just in case,’ she thought ‘just in case he returns to have dinner with me.’

“Yunnie, are you going to just live like this for the rest of your life? You have to do something about her! I can keep waiting for you but it does not mean you can just pretend that marriage didn’t happen!” Jaejoong frowned at the man who was dancing unstoppably. Going over to stop the music, he forced Yunho to stop and look at him. Yunho groaned as he sat down on the floor, letting his hair fall messily around the frame of his face. “I wish I can do something about it, but what can I do to make her sign the divorce papers? Why would she even agree on a divorce?” going over to sweep his fringe away from his face, Jaejoong knew what he said was true too. But they can’t possibly leave this matter alone.

Although he knew Yunho since they were trainees in S.M Entertainment, he always felt that there was a part of Yunho which he could not grasp. He could not pinpoint what was it exactly, but it feels to him that there is a part of Yunho that’s missing, a part of Yunho which he does not know. Although Yunho was perfect in every other area, Jaejoong felt really insecure after they became lovers. Perhaps it was due to the fact that Yunho has suffered a memory loss soon after he became a trainee. However, Yunho’s parents have worked hard to fill in all the missing memories by telling him every detail of his life, showing him albums after albums of photographs from when he was born. And himself? He told all of his little memories with Yunho as S.M trainees, trying not to miss out even a single part although he really only knew him for barely a year to have much memories with him at all. Was this the cause of his insecurities? Because Yunho had a memory loss previously? But everything has been filled in for him. So what exactly is this missing part of Yunho which he could not grab hold of?

After washing the dishes, Sohee has been typing fervently on her laptop. The date for submission is nearing, and she is barely halfway through with completion. However, she felt no stress. Writing was her passion and she would never feel tired of it. Not to mention, this is going to be her first publication in Korea. As much as she is a successful author in Japan, Korea is an entirely new market for her. Stifling another yawn, she hit the save button before allowing herself to nap for a bit. “Just ten minutes…” a tiny smile crept up her lips as soon as her eyes closed.
